Was I Like That?

Once a month, my wife and I go to our favorite bakery, Sweet Melissa’s, to get some amazing pastries. It is worth the long drive and the extra calories that I have to burn off later in the day.

This time, we got stuck behind some slow and hesitant drivers. The type that seems to be lost and has no idea where they are going. The type of driver that reminds me of a teenager learning to drive. I wonder if I was that bad when I started to drive. I’d ask my parents but I am afraid to find out that I was probably worse.

Our oldest son got his driver’s license three months ago. It was painful teaching him how to drive. He is still learning and he has a long way to go. Suddenly, I have a newfound respect for driving instructors. It is beyond me that they are able to do this over and over again without having a heart attack. The whole process of teaching a teenager how to drive makes me seriously examine my life and determine what transgressions God is punishing me for.

It takes a lot of “reps” to become a good driver. It takes a lot of patience to help them become one.
