Everyday Is an Interview
Every leader eventually leaves.
The position gets filled.
The office gets cleaned out.
Someone else’s name goes on the door.
But the culture you helped build can remain long after you are gone.
That may be one of the greatest tests of leadership.
Did you build something that depended on you?
Or did you build something strong enough to continue without you?
Great leaders do more than solve today’s problems. They develop people who can solve tomorrow’s problems.
They do more than establish expectations. They help those expectations become habits.
They do more than talk about values. They model them so consistently that others begin carrying them forward.
That is how culture becomes sustainable.
If professionalism only exists when the leader is watching, it was never really part of the culture.
If accountability disappears when leadership changes, it was never truly embedded.
If teamwork depends on one person holding everything together, the organization was dependent on an individual rather than strengthened by a culture.
The goal of leadership should never be to make yourself indispensable.
It should be to leave people stronger, systems better, expectations clearer, and the organization more capable than when you arrived.
Eventually, someone else will lead.
When that day comes, the greatest compliment may not be hearing people say, “Things were better when you were here.”
It may be seeing them continue the work without you.
Culture is built daily.
But when it is built well, it can last for generations.
Every day is an interview.
