Habits #10: The Habit of Reflection

Everyday Is an Interview

Experience alone is not the best teacher.

Reflecting upon experience is.

Every day provides an opportunity to learn, but only if we take the time to ask ourselves the right questions.

What went well today?

What could I have done better?

What did I learn?

Who did I help?

What will I do differently tomorrow?

Professionals develop the habit of reflection because they understand that improvement is intentional. They do not simply move from one task to the next. They pause, evaluate, and adjust.

Reflection transforms mistakes into lessons.

It transforms successes into repeatable habits.

It transforms experience into wisdom.

The most effective leaders I have known are lifelong learners, but they are also lifelong reflectors. They recognize that growth does not happen during activity alone. It happens during thoughtful evaluation of that activity.

Reflection also keeps us humble. It reminds us there is always another lesson to learn, another skill to refine, and another opportunity to become better than we were yesterday.

Every day is an interview.

Do not just ask whether you had a good day.

Ask whether you became a better person because of it.

“Reflection is where today’s experience becomes tomorrow’s wisdom.”
