Everyday Is an Interview
Everyone contributes to culture.
But leaders carry a greater responsibility for it.
The moment you accept a leadership role, people begin watching more closely. They notice what gets your attention. They notice what you celebrate. They notice what frustrates you. Most importantly, they notice the behaviors you correct and the ones you allow to continue.
Whether you realize it or not, you are carrying the culture.
If you remain calm when things become difficult, others learn that challenges can be handled professionally.
If you admit a mistake, others learn that accountability is valued.
If you recognize someone else’s success, others learn that contributions matter.
If you treat people with respect regardless of their title, others learn that dignity is part of the culture.
But leadership works in the other direction too.
Ignore negativity, and it spreads.
Tolerate disrespect, and it becomes acceptable.
Say one thing and do another, and people quickly learn which standard actually matters.
This is why culture cannot be delegated to a committee, initiative, or slogan. Leaders must carry it into meetings, conversations, decisions, emails, and difficult moments.
And carrying culture does not mean being perfect.
It means being intentional.
Every interaction is an opportunity to reinforce what your organization stands for.
Culture is built daily.
If you are a leader, you are carrying it whether you intend to or not.
Make sure it is worth following.
